Hello, everyone. My name is Mitchell Szczepanczyk, and I've volunteered as the present organizer of the Chicago Fight Big Media Meetup.
Let me make a suggestion right off the bat -- if you're looking for an action you can take right away to make a positive impact in our media, please consider this action from our friends at Chicago's main public access TV networks, CAN TV: http://www.cantv.org/... Regarding media-related work, I'm currently involved with a group in Chicago which works on media issues which members of the Chicago Fight Big Media Meetup might be interested in. The group is called Chicago Media Action; you can learn more about the group online: http://www.chicagomed... CMA is involved in media-related activities like challenging FCC policies, improving public radio and TV broadcasting, supporting independent and noncommercial media, and offering direct challenges to big media outlets in Chicago and elsewhere. In upcoming months, we hope to file one or more license challenges against some negligent Chicago-area TV broadcasters. All of the TV stations in Illinois will see broadcast licenses expire this year, which opens a window of opportunity to challenge incumbent broadcasters that won't come again until 2013. If you'd like to be a part of this action, or know of organizations which might like to participate, please let me know. If you'd like to get more involved in CMA's work, CMA plans to hold two organizing meetings in September. Details are as follows: Dates: Tuesday, September 13 -- or Tuesday, September 25 Time: Starting at 6:30pm Place: 3411 W. Diversey, near the Milwaukee / Kimball / Diversey intersection, close to the Logan Square station on the CTA Blue Line If you can't make either of these dates, or you'd like to hold regular meetings as part of a Chicago Fight Big Media Meetup, let me know and I'll see if I can make other meeting arrangements. Or, if you have any questions about media or any ideas about possible media-related actions, please let me know. If you can't take part otherwise, but would still like to be on top of the latest happenings in CMA and in media-related work, you can join CMA's mailing list and get our free monthly newsletter. Simply tell me your email and that you'd like to join the list and I'll add you to the list. Here's CMA's most recent newsletter: http://www.chicagomed... I hope you find this email helpful. I look forward to meeting you. Sincerely, Mitchell Szczepanczyk mitchell@chicagomediaaction.org |
