“ Democracy needs media reform to breathe and prosper, and this group is committed to that goal. ”
— Jack on Jan 18, 2009.
“ People and public interest should rule the realm of communication, not the profit-driven media and big business control. ”
— B on Jul 16, 2008.
“ Increasing consolidation of media means by corporations means that real people's voices aren't heard. The same news gets recycled for multiple tv, radio and papers, with an increasing homogeneity of content. Issues and and positions are simplified, condensed into 5 minutes and the rest of the hour is spent in shouting matches or soft serve discussion. Big media news uses fearmongering, "soft news" and ranting, all of it devoid of real information or analysis-- all to keep us from being informed and truly engaging in issues and debate. The problem isn't going to fix itself. This group's goal is to keep abreast of developments and ideas and to brainstorm for solutions. ”
— Starla Carpenter on Sep 18, 2009.
“ Great core group, would love to have more people involved? newcomers should not be afraid. ”
— Michael Maranda on Jul 18, 2009.
“ We live in a world where just a few major corporations are now shaping the thoughts and remote-controlling the minds of hundreds of millions of people. These corporations are responsible to their shareholders at the expense of objective journalism and even the right of free speech. We can't expect the mainstream media monopoly to fix the problems that they are intentionally causing and so it is the responsibility of community activists to offer viable alternatives and create independent media outlets while demanding measures of reform. It will take work to fix this problem. Fortunately their are many intelligent and skillful people ready to get involved! Let's team up and help create the ideal multimedia infrastructure of the future and demand the quality and integrity of service that we have the power to imagine. ”
— Mike Kalas on Apr 15, 2009.
“ Gear up for scintillating conversations that dovetail nicely into actions that can benefit the independent media outlets being launched by members of the group. Don't just gripe about corporate-controlled media, get involved in ways to circumvent/undermine it! ”
